After graduating college, I moved to rural western North Carolina where I began making pots and my husband began working at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I discovered the rich regional history of pottery and how it’s been applied in a contemporary way with respect to western and eastern clay traditions. I’ve always been attracted to Asian pottery (as are so many potters in western North Carolina), and I’ve worked with and learned from some of the best potters in the country. I’ve been a working potter for 30 years and a teacher for 25 years. Even though we’ve left the mountains, my commitment to fine craft and teaching remains solidly with these fine craftspeople in the beautiful Appalachians. We live in Tennessee now and continue our pursuit of an aesthetic life and conservation of our natural world.
